We will be celebrating the 120th anniversary of the publication of the 1896 REPORT OF THE COMMISSION TO LOCATE THE SITE OF THE FRONTIER FORTS OF PENNSYLVANIA with a digital publication of “PA Frontier Forts” featuring restored prints of selected maps and drawings of historically important forts and block houses.
The 1896 report did an inventory and mapped each fort and block house built to defend local European immigrant communities from Native Americans and French and Indian War hostilities. In the 1890’s the Pennsylvania commonwealth recognized that these forts were disappearing and their histories being lost to time so the report was their attempt to preserve what was left via interviews and documentation of these sites with detailed maps and drawings.
HistorianPress will be digitizing commission drawings and maps from the publication to create art to commemorate these forts. All new art will be sold through our HistoricWorks Gallery web site. Check out the PA Forts Gallery for the latest prints.
We also hope to create a Kickstarter campaign in the Summer of 2016 to fund this project. Check back for more details.
